Emma, is our 3-year-old daughter who was born with a facial nevus. As her mother and primary advocate, I have become a stay at home mom in order to best help us handle her care. Her father works in computers at a local university. His job provides us with good insurance and enough vacation time so that we can spend her surgeries recouping together. We consider ourselves very lucky.

News Winter Update
Posted by Aaron on Thursday, March 13, 2008 (00:25:40) (140 reads)

Hi,

I wanted to post an update on what is going on (or lack there of). Unfortunately. someone was able to exploit a piece of code in the software that I use to run the website. This led to some issues with my Internet Service Provider as well as another ISP who reported our site as running a phishing site. While no data was take from our site, I had to lock some areas down and this has caused a real issue trying to upload new pictures. I am currently testing a few other applications and hope to make a decision soon and start the long process of converting everything over.

That being said, if anyone wants to see more current pictures of Emma, please let us know.

Emma is doing well after her last round of skin expansion. She is really enjoying school and is truly remarkable.

Thanks and hope to get things moving along again soon!

Aaron, Denise, Emma & Celia

Surgeries Emma Update
Posted by Aaron on Monday, July 23, 2007 (12:30:49) (159 reads)

Emma had a very successful surgery in Chicago earlier this month. To our surprise, she recovered faster than ever! We let the hospital around 7:00pm after a surgery that didn't start until 11:00am! Her drainage tubes even stopped draining less than 24 hours later. Dr. Bauer placed a 70cc expander in her cheek. As of today, it is almost 50cc's full (Dr Bauer is hoping to get it to ~ 110cc's). I will be posting pictures shortly.

While we were at the Ronald McDonald House, we met Klara and her family from Singapore. I have some great pictures of her that I will be posting as soon as possible. She is close to the end of undergoing surgeries and looks AMAZING!

Take care!
Aaron

Surgeries Another round......
Posted by Aaron on Tuesday, May 01, 2007 (14:06:55) (162 reads)

Well, we received some disappointing news. Emma will need another round of skin expansion. We are looking at mid to late summer to have the expander put in. It will probably be a 250cc expander. Hopefully we can squeeze in mid summer so she can start school a bit sooner.

Surgeries No More Expanders!
Posted by Aaron on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 (02:54:44) (196 reads)

Emma developed a hole in her skin after just one month of expansion. She had 95/250 cc filled in her expander and it proved to be enough to remove most of the nevus from her face. She will still need to undergo surgeries to remove some small areas ofnevus as wellas making sure everything looks right. The updated pictures can be found here.

She is still pretty uncomfortable (this was her second surgery in about a month) but she's pretty tough and will be bouncing around the house very soon.

This marks a major milestone in her short life and ours as we will no longer have to go through the skin expansion process again Smile

She still has a lot of work to go though, but this is really a giant step forward.

I have added some new pictures to Emma's surgery section, created a new Friends section, and added a Picture to the Ronald McDonald House section.

If any one wants to have some pictures of nevus friends to add to the Friends section, please let me know and I will add it.

Thanks
Aaron

Posted by Aaron on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 (19:16:26) (233 reads)

Hi!!!

Emma had surgery yesterday to insert a 250cc expander in her cheek/neck. She is doing wonderful. We even left the hospital earily last night (instead of staying all night long). We are amazed at how well she is doing. We will be posting a few post op pictures soon. Very Happy

Thanks!

News Website changes
Posted by Aaron on Tuesday, March 07, 2006 (14:17:35) (222 reads)

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are beginning a process to change our domain registrar to a new company in a cost savings move. During the next few days while this is taking place, the website may be down for a short time. Sad

The good news is that part of these changes will result in us having a fail over server, meaning if this site is down, you will be automatically redirected to another site. Very Happy

Hopefully the transition will go smoothly and nobody will notice any problems.

Thanks
Aaron

Surgeries Emma Update
Posted by Aaron on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 (15:06:01) (201 reads)

Well, Emma, was not quite ready for surgery last month, so we reschuled for the spring. Hopefully this will be her last round of expansion surgery! Unfortuantely, due to the timing, we will not beable to go to the Nevus Outreach confrence in Texas. Just wondering if anyone is planning on going. I know that when we went to the one in Columbus two years ago, it was a great experience.
